Need a larger vessel? The Wirawi accommodates up to 300 guests, making it perfect for corporate functions, major celebrations, and community gatherings.
Wirawi, meaning 'woman' in the Dharug language, is Australia's first Indigenous run ferry, bringing cultural connection and maritime heritage together on Sydney Harbour.
The Wirawi offers:
Whether it's a large corporate event, wedding reception, or milestone celebration, the Wirawi provides a unique venue that combines space, comfort, and cultural significance.
Originally built in 1974 as the Lady Northcott, this historic Sydney ferry served the harbour for over four decades before retiring in 2017. In 2021, the NSW Government generously donated the vessel to Tribal Warrior Aboriginal Corporation, following a suggestion by Uncle Mark Champley, a Kamilaroi man and former Sydney Ferries worker, to repurpose it for training Aboriginal youth.
After extensive refurbishments, the vessel was relaunched as Wirawi on 25 January 2023, marking a new chapter in its storied history.
The transformation of the Wirawi has revitalised this iconic ferry, enabling it to serve multiple purposes:
The Wirawi preserves a piece of Sydney's maritime history while creating meaningful opportunities for the Indigenous community, ensuring the vessel's legacy continues for generations to come.
Since its relaunch, the Wirawi has participated in significant events including Vivid Sydney 2024, where it was adorned with Aboriginal artwork and LED lighting, offering passengers immersive experiences that celebrate Aboriginal culture on the water.
To commemorate its 50th anniversary, a special charity event featured Australian strongman Troy Conley Magnusson pulling the 360 tonne ferry, highlighting both its remarkable past and renewed purpose.
We have a range of food, beverage, and entertainment packages available to suit every occasion.
